On my trip to Downieville two months ago, for what appeared to me to be a suicidal downhill “Classic”, I was amazed that the Sierra Buttes seemed so much higher than remembered, when shuttling riders to the crest. Just driving to the top seemed harrowing, let alone the days when I used to hike it.

By the way; I found, and purchased, two crazed cyclist T-shirts that I found hanging in the bike shop there; both RLCrabb creations.

    SCORE!!

I’ve done the Sierra Buttes climb from Tamarack Lake to the lookout and back. Yikes what a climb! Sore for days, but oh my. The geology of the place and views made it all worth it.
