City Trek: The Undeveloped Country

LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Committee) is proposing to strip some areas from Nevada City’s historic watershed sphere of influence. Who’s behind this naked power grab? We may find some answers at the workshop scheduled for this Thursday at the ROOD complex. The fun begins at 9:30 am. Hope to see you there. (Set phasers on stun!)

Other than making land adjacent to the city more available for developers, what is the reason for the proposed adjustment? I see nothing in any of the links except for “we can, therefore we should”, and “to bring the amount of space under the city’s SOI more in line with other cities.” Both of which are, again, just BS to allow closer development: build now under the county’s control, annex later at the city’s cost.

There’s a gazillion acres out there that could be developed; this is just a fight over the tasty ones closer in.

As a side: I forget how long I’ve been gone; I don’t recognize any of the names on the city council, even the one who says he’s a native. Ah well.

PS- Let me know how it comes out, just in case I win the lotto someday and can afford to move back to my home town.

Second thought: never mind; things are just as FUBAR here, but 80% calmer, politically speaking.

        Chris:

I keep buying Powerball and Mega Million tickets for the same reason. And if either of us ever win the Big One, we can return to Nevada County and run local campaigns that will quickly change the political landscape.

So keep buying those tickets, OK?

We suspect that most of the city council are Klingons.
