Menu From A World War

Going through all my parents’ old papers and pictures, I found this memento of V-J Day, September 2, 1945. Dad was stationed in the Philippines. I imagine those boys were relieved that they didn’t have to invade the Japanese mainland.

    I have the Thanksgiving menu from just before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The only thing out of the ordinary, other than the art work depicting the holiday in the islands, is knowing, in retrospect, what my Dad and others were about to go through.

    Greatest generation? Yeah, I’ll give it to them.
