Ison The Light

Comet Envy345And so another year passes into history. The world keeps turning, the cycle of life passes before our eyes. The only thing we can be sure of is the sun will rise in the morning and fall into the sea at the end of the day. In our tiny corner of the universe, we’ll huff and puff over which course to follow into the future, barely aware that we’re spinning in the same old circle.

Here at Crabb Hollow, it’s a rare moment of calm after a stormy year. Too many events to chronicle here, and besides, they wouldn’t matter to the neighbor across the street, much less a national audience. I got some huckleberry jam for Christmas. To me, it’s purple gold, a taste in my mouth that hasn’t been satisfied for four decades. To most people it’s just a jar of jelly.

We’re heading into another election year, and of course it will be touted as The Most Important Election In Our Lifetime, with dire consequences should the wrong people be trusted with the reins of government. The pundits and politicians only have six months to make their case before the first round come June, and I expect some spirited campaigns.

The only thing that seems certain is that Democrats will continue their one-party domination of California, unless an earthquake sends the Barbary Coast tumbling into the Pacific Ocean. (Does Google know something we don’t? Why did they buy that barge?) The direction of Congress is far from settled, and will be determined by the success or failure of the Affordable Care Act.

But for now, I’m going to take a short break. The old computer is in need a valve job and some new windshield wipers, so it is going to visit the mechanic. If the world ends while I’m offline, thanks for taking the time to read my scratches, scrawls and screeds. It’s a fun job, although exasperating at times.

See you in the new year.

Much akin to your computer, my very being is feeling the pressures of the trillions of miles I’ve traveled through space and time. Perhaps death is simply a reboot from the fun, yet exasperating, times we have experienced.

I’m hoping it’s not a shift into a lower gear. See ya’ in the next orbit, Bob.
