This rekindled memories of an up-and-coming artist named John Burnham, who moved to San Francisco in the 70’s to pursue his love of drawing toons and painting. At 16 he was doing layouts for wind and solar magazines to make ends meet and put out some really fantastic acrylic paintings. (Some of which I own.) He supposedly palled around with some of the heavyweights of the time and was known as a skilled member of the toon underground.

Unfortunately, some of his wires got crossed and he ended up as a ward of the state for the last 40 years, with no apparent urge to create anything graphic. I visit him at his home in Redding, CA now and then when I get the chance, but time has separated us in a number of ways. I pity that.
