Memorial Day 2019

Richard “Doc” Halstead served two thirteen month tours in Vietnam as a combat medic in the U.S. Marines. Wounded twice, and received two purple hearts. A better friend I will never find. Rest in peace.

Whether it’s remembering all who served on Veterans Day, or honoring those who fell in combat on Memorial Day, it is when a nation forgets the pain of war, or as today, wages wars never seen, that it becomes an acceptable sacrifice.

Of the things I do know for sure, my brothers-in-arms who gave their all and the majority of those who served and lived to speak of it, seldom do. Many, if they could, would be disgusted to learn that our nation is the world’s #1 arms dealer and responsible for horrific acts of violence across the globe.

As a member of Veterans For Peace, I raise my voice where possible to end the reign of power being wielded by American arms dealers and the ignorant politicians and citizens who support them. We all pay for their profit.

You’d think, living in Oregon, that I’d know the different spellings of rain, rein, and reign. Even my email address, *pioggia*, is Italian for rain.

I fixed it, unless you were referring to the precipitation of power, as in “raining on our parade”.
