Every now and then some joker will get the idea that he can somehow circumvent our designated commercial highways and come out the other side unscathed. This usually happens during the winter months, when Caltrans closes I-80 and Highway 20 due to snow. When you look at GPS, it often appears that there are alternatives those pesky bureaucrats have overlooked, and an enterprising driver can simply go around the barriers and deliver his goods.
Last week, one of these geniuses thought he could beat the system, ignore the plethora of warning signs, and cut a few corners by taking Dogbar Road, only to find himself stranded, embarrassed, and probably unemployed.
We all want to get ahead, but sometimes you just have to follow conventional wisdom or end up at the bottom of the heap.
Can ya dig the poetic metaphor?
